- Chinese leading telecommunication equipment provider Huawei recently announced that the company plans to launch a series of enhanced version of TD-SCDMA data cards - which supports the HDSPA (Time Division-High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology and EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) - in 2009, the Sina News reported. By means of Huawei's HSDPA-level data card, codenamed ET128, users can enjoy a downlink speed of 2.8Mbps and seamless transition between the two networks. The products are slated for commercialization by year-end 2008, according to the same source.

- Chinese fabless chipmaker Spreadtrum and Shanghai Rahotech announced on December 23 that they have jointly developed the world's first TD-SCDMA/GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) dual-mode wireless module for use in wireless fixed-line video phones, the Sohu News reported. Leveraging Spreadtrum's proprietary TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode chipsets, the new module, codenamed TM610, is scheduled to hit the market by year-end 2008 and supports 3G functions, including high-speed transmission rate, video phone, data applications, voice call, SMS (Short Message Service), and MMS (Multimedia Message Service), according to the same source.

- CATR (China Academy of Telecommunication Research) of China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) recently confirmed that several TD-SCDMA phones, which support CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting) standard, have passed a network access test conducted by MIIT, the Sina News reported on December 24. These qualified CMMB-enabled TD-SCDMA phones were separately provided by Hisense and Coolpad. It is learnt that the CMMB-enabled terminals purchased by China Mobile before 2008 Beijing Olympics did not go through the test.
